Shouldn’t a Degree Keep You From Poverty?

http://uspoverty.change.org/blog/view/shouldnt_a_college_degree_keep_you_out_of_poverty

I had to discuss this point and link to this brief article because as I have looked around at many of my friends….they hold Bachelor’s and many of them hold Master’s Degrees, but they are struggling to find work. I personally faced the same fate after going back to school to pursue a new degree…..when I was finished I was left with student loans and no prospect of work.  With a background in education and a belief in education I am blown  away with how education is pushed to keep us from being poor, yet truly it is not protecting Americans from becoming poor in this recession.

I realize that many specialty areas such as nursing, medicine, law and computer science may still be in high demand. But for many that graduate with a Bachelors in business, marketing, education, psychology and so on…..are not finding the jobs that they had hoped for. Some may say people need to be careful then what they major in, but if it takes 4 to 6 years to graduate…..a field that may have been in a higher demand may be upon graduation facing budget cuts, moved overseas, or be basically non-existent. Even medicine, law, sciences, and technology are not completely safe either for the future. With new government mandates;possible universal health care coverage; people not having enough money to sue, divorce, or legally get advised there really is no true safe degree.

What was also interesting and I am sure very familiar were the comments to the article. One in particular pointed to the fact that many successful peers had never graduated college, but started their own businesses. Another comment spoke about cleaning houses or lawn maintenance paying $30/hour….while when you look in the classifieds many degree holders are looking at around $10-14/hour.

Starting your own business is not guaranteed either and can be expensive, but becoming an entrepreneur within a company with a business plan in place may be the safest way to begin your own company. Network marketing has changed and looks much different than it did years ago and truly is your own business, but without all the headache. It is like buying into a franchise…..and your particular store can be the most successful if you push for it. But unlike a franchised store you are not having large start-up costs or huge overheads, no stocking products or dealing with  legalities all give the new entrepreneurs of our age a huge edge. With global markets able to become partners and customers in these companies…..you are almost limitless in your opportunity to grow and the best part is the income is residual. It is not get rich quick, but it is get rich smart and much more quickly than any other method I have found…minus inheritance or lottery of course.

I still stand by education as something of importance as it allows us to become more developed, mature and prepared for world markets……but I do know that it is not a guarantee of success. You, your network of contacts, and your overall drive and pursuance and perseverance are all major factors in creating your own success.

Donald Trump’s New Apprentice Show: Putting America back to work: What if you had the same opportunity?

Posted on September 14, 2010. Filed under: Entrepreneurship | Tags: , , , , , , , |

In Donald Trump’s new season of the Apprentice that will air on Thursdays starting September 16th at 10/9c…….will have a new twist: putting America back to work! Isn’t that what is on so many of our minds today? How do we find work? Where do we find work? Why can’t I find work when I am educated? Why did the recession have to tank my business? What will I do now?

I know personally those questions have crossed my mind. Owning our own general contracting company that was hard hit by the recession….not just us individually, but our whole industry. Or even more personally to me individually…..I have a degree, I have been successful but no one is hiring! How many resumes did I need to put out, how many contacts did I need to go to- ultimately finding nothing? Neighbors, family members, friends…….all being laid off or in fear of being laid off with no real hope for a future job in the marketplace….this is going on ACROSS AMERICA…..ACROSS THE GLOBE.  Donald Trump is recognizing this need in so many ways.

First let’s take a look at some of the candidates.

Alex; mechanical engineer that is now towing trucks to make ends meet for his family. David; went from a top account manager to not being able to pay his mortgage. James; a Duke grad with a Law degree from Georgetown that is now unemployed. Liza; has her master’s and started a business that fell victim to the recession. Clint; who has his doctorate in law was forced to sell his possessions and his family is living in friends’ rental properties. Kelly; who was ranked Atlanta’s “Power 30 Under 30” in global public relations that is now jobless was forced to move home with her parents. Poppy; Stanford grad with a master’s in sociology that can’t find a job after her schooling and is home too with her parents. And then there is Steurt; successful entrepreneur who had to close down two companies and lay off many employees.

Do any of these stories sound familiar? I look at these individuals and they are well educated, they have reached levels of success, yet due to our poor economy they are now all just as hard-hit by the economic downturn as many others that are flooding the still existing businesses/companies with resumes to no avail. Trump is giving them hope…he sees their potential and sees that they represent countless other Americans that may be at that point now or in the near future. These are qualified individuals who through no fault of their own are down on their luck and looking for hope. They know that there will be work involved and they are willing to take the chance, the chance at hope for a brighter financial future.

Only so many could make it on the Apprentice, but what if Trump could give you the same opportunity…..would you take it? Would you be willing to step out and work hard in order to achieve financial security and success? Stop and think about it a moment….if Trump came to you and said I have a way to possibly help you out of your current situation or a possible way to protect you from being without work in the future……..would you consider it? What if he said that the timing was right and that timing was everything….would you consider that?

If you answered yes, then I have some really exciting news. Donald Trump does have an opportunity in business for anyone willing to put forth some effort, take a step out into entrepreneurialism, and who is ready to lead others to do the same.  I am excited to be a part of a phenomenal team of leaders that has chosen to do just this; take Trump up on his offer at a chance for financial success! Did you know that Donald Trump now has a business that is open to you? It involves networking yourself with others to create a stream of residual income. The business model is phenomenal, the products are outstanding, the training is cutting edge and it can all be done in your own home and online! It is the Trump Network and it is in its premomentum phase as in if you get on board now and begin building your business, you can ride the wave of momentum as this business grows quickly and globally. I know why I wanted to get on board, why don’t you take a look and see why you would want to get on board this business built for success by success. Trump knew a lot about the timing in real estate and I know with his business skills and resources; he realized there was a new piece of “real estate” he wanted that he could share with anyone and everyone that was willing. It is the “real estate” of the business of the 21st Century; Network Marketing.

If you are interested I would love to hear from you. I am so glad I took on the opportunity as an independent marketer as it has been life changing and saving! We have a whole team that is ready to guide you as you get started and on track with your financial goals and dreams. We look forward to helping you begin to build your own business; a business that will be your vehicle for change and allow you to live the life free of fearing for your financial future. Today is your day!

As with anything, nothing is guaranteed, but it is truly an opportunity for success for those who want to put forth the effort……for those that put forth the effort and maintain there committment to building there business…..they are the ones who not only deserve the success, but earned it!

Save Your Kids from Absent Parent Syndrome

Posted on September 7, 2010. Filed under: Entrepreneurship | Tags: , , , , |

As I look around more and more of my friends are taking on new jobs. Many of these jobs are hourly due to the fact that although they hold degrees(many of the hold Master’s Degrees), most larger companies are not hiring. These parents are trading their precious hours, for minimal dollars. Why? Because in order to keep up with the rising cost of groceries, utilities, gas and all the must haves……..they are being forced into a depressed work industry. It is not that these parents want to go and take a position and lose all flexibility and time….they HAVE to! So many of the kids are being placed into after school programs, or become latch-key kids, and the schools are faced with a lack of parent volunteers at a time when they are facing budget-cuts themselves.

What is the answer? entrepreneurship. Starting your own home-based, internet driven and social media pushed business. This can be a business that is of your own creation or you can find a reputable on-line company that follows a networking model to produce income. For me I know how difficult it can be to start your very own business and all the forms, marketing and etc. that goes along with doing so. My suggestions to parents that have stayed home……find a company that you are passionate about, that has a good reputation, strong brand, powerful and top of the line products, and constant online eduction/system that will help you reach your business income goals.

The advantages of this plan are the fact that you don’t have to create your own product or services…..which can be costly and almost impossible because you are competing with larger companies with larger pocketbooks. Another advantage is the fact that you don’t have to go get a business license, insurance, logo creation and all that a new business requires. A huge advantage in my opinion is that you will still own your own business within this company, allowing you to be your own boss, make your own hours and work wherever you want- you are completely mobile with internet and phone. You also will now qualify for many tax write-offs such as office materials, gas, car, food(business lunches/dinners), phone, internet, and products you purchase to promote your business. Even your initial start-up fee into the business can be a write-off.  Personally I think this is the best of both worlds. You can build your business at your speed and ultimately make a very large income, but you still are available to your children and family.

I knew that I did not want to trade my time for minimal dollars or put myself out there to make someone else a lot of money. I wanted to have a way to help show others how they too could make money from home or anywhere. These are businesses of people helping people to be their best. I would love to show you how to be your best…..please check out my website at www.mentoringmomstosuccess.com. If you are not a mom….but want the freedom lifestyle of an online business please still visit my website and I will put you in touch with someone on my team that would be perfect mentor to meet your needs! Always here to help…..Shea

President Urges Entrepreneurship

Posted on September 4, 2010. Filed under: Entrepreneurship |

This in no way supports one political party or another as that is not the purpose of this blog. It is a clear statement from our President that has true insight on the entrepreneaurial explosion that we should see in our very near future……you can already hear it rumbling!

From President Obama’s Oval Office Address:

“Our most urgent task is to restore our economy, and put the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs back to work. To strengthen our middle class, we must give all our children the education they deserve, and all our workers the skills that they need to compete in a global economy. We must jumpstart industries that create jobs, and end our dependence on foreign oil. We must unleash the innovation that allows new products to roll off our assembly lines, and nurture the ideas that spring from our entrepreneurs. This will be difficult. But in the days to come, it must be our central mission as a people, and my central responsibility as President”.

I hope everyone is listening closely…..you can see that the “system” is changing once again on how we create wealth. Roberty Kiyosaki said it many books ago…..this was going to be the “Age of the Entrepreneur”.  I remember him saying in his book that when times are tight and tough….basically the tough get going and get innovative.

We are America…Americans…..we were built on innovation, we HAD TO become innovators and entrepreneurs. We were creating our OWN way and we wanted to prove to the world WE COULD MAKE IT! We can once again make it, but it is not in the job industries many of my generation and older have been trained for…..but that does not cut us out one bit. We need to look for NEEDS and fill them. We need to not only look in our own backyard, but we need to know that whatever we build a business around….it must have a GLOBAL VALUE or a GLOBAL NEED! As many are looking in to new ways to increase their income…remember and make it your MISSION to look outside of what you “think” you know….explore new options and remember what was said at the end of the speech, “the dream that a better life awaits anyone who is willing to work for it and reach for it” ….. it can be attained….but you must work for it and you must reach for it and maybe take yourself out of your comfort zone!
